VOCATIONAL TRAINING EVENTS

Empowering Out-of-School Youth through Computer Literacy

The College of Information Technology (CIT), in partnership with the Liceo Center for Community Development (LCCD), successfully implemented the Computer Literacy Program (CLP) for School Year 2023–2024. Conducted over 14 Saturday sessions from March 9 to June 8, 2024, at IT Lab 1, the initiative equipped 15 out-of-school youths from Barangay Canitoan with essential digital skills for employment and lifelong learning.

The curriculum covered Internet fundamentals, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as basic hardware and software servicing—designed to meet practical workplace needs and national standards. To further boost participants’ career readiness, the program concluded with a TESDA Assessment and Certification Review, validating their competencies for the growing digital workforce.

“This program gave me confidence to apply for jobs that require computer skills,” shared one participant during the graduation held on July 27, 2024, at AVR 3. “I am thankful to Liceo for giving us this opportunity to learn and grow.”

The Computer Literacy Program advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing inclusive, equitable learning opportunities for marginalized groups, and supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by enhancing employability through skills training. Through sustained university–community partnerships, Liceo U continues to champion digital inclusion and social empowerment in Northern Mindanao.

Promoting Environmental Stewardship through Education

As part of its ongoing community extension initiatives, Liceo de Cagayan University’s School of Business, Management, and Accountancy (SBMA), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Junior Tourism and Hospitality Management Association of the Philippines, conducted a Food Handling and Processing Workshop for the Safer River Mothers’ Club. The activity was held at the Mini-Hotel of Liceo’s South Academic Cluster Building.

The workshop provided hands-on learning in safe food preparation and preservation techniques, equipping participants with practical skills for household safety and livelihood opportunities. Guided by Liceo faculty and student volunteers, the mothers actively engaged in demonstrations, discussions, and interactive sessions focused on sustainable community development through food-based entrepreneurship.

“This workshop allows participants to gain practical skills while promoting safe and sustainable practices in their daily lives and businesses,” shared a faculty coordinator from Liceo de Cagayan University.

The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education through skills training, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by fostering livelihood opportunities, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by promoting safe and sustainable food practices.
