The Licean Psyche
The Licean Psyche is manned by an Editor in Chief who is supervised by an Adviser.  Being an organization run by student writers composing the Editorial Board, it seeks the professional guidance of the Vice President for Students and Personnel Services as its consultant.  Further, it recognizes the authority and professional duty of the University President, being the overseer of the entire Liceo community, in ensuring that everything works for the good of all its constituents.

Vision

The Licean Psyche sees itself as the University’s significant arm in promoting awareness of its policies, operations, and activities among its constituents.  It strives to become an effective avenue for the publication of its academic, co- and extra-curricular activities through journalistic and literary writing.  Further, it endeavors to provide its staffers a training ground for the development of their writing and leadership skills, thereby optimizing their potentials as promising professional writers, setting themselves as role models among their fellows, and honing them to become efficient future leaders and followers of this country.

Mission

The Licean Psyche, as the official publication of the University run by an elite circle of student writers, commits itself, through the values of integrity, culture, respect, partnership, unity, professionalism, fairness, and provenance, to record the academic life of Liceo de Cagayan University as lived by her students, faculty, and administration.

Goal

The Licean Psyche endeavors to serve the Liceo community through information dissemination.

Objectives

The Licean Psyche strives
  • to inform the Liceo community about the University’s policies, operations, and activities.
  • to provide the Liceo community with an avenue for the publication of their literary compositions.
  • to afford the staffers an opportunity to develop their writing and leadership skills.
Code of Ethics

We, The Licean Psyche staffers, shall strive to perform efficiently our duties as student journalists in the service of the Liceo community.

Integrity

We shall gather, treat, and present all information within the values of honesty, fairness, objectivity, and accuracy.

Culture

We shall obey the policies and practices of the University without necessarily compromising the integrity of the publication.

Respect

We shall manifest respect for both the personal and professional rights of others in our pursuit for our right to public information.

Partnership

We shall offer ourselves as the University’s loyal ally in promoting awareness of the various issues in the Liceo community.

Unity

We shall favor teamwork over independence and work for the common good of everyone.

Professionalism

We shall focus on the vision-mission-goal-objectives of the publication rather than our personal interests and positions.

Fairness

We shall treat equally our clientele and their works according to the publication’s standards without any partiality against their race, culture, religion, and preferences, among others.

Provenance

We shall give due credit to the sources of all directly and indirectly borrowed ideas.


Strategies

The Licean Psyche employs the following strategies to achieve the preceding thrusts:
  • holding periodic seminar-workshops particularly on campus journalism and leadership.
  • participating in local and national conferences on media-related activities.
  • conducting periodic evaluation and planning sessions.
  • tapping the various student body organization presidents as correspondents.
  • coordinating with the Liceo Net and the Alumni Office for a wider coverage and the Department of Languages and Communication (DLC), through D.X.L.U., for a live radio broadcasting of the news reports in the campus.
  • Providing the Mass Communication students with an avenue to practice their acquired skills in journalism as regular contributors and/or volunteer writers, photojournalists, cartoonists, and layout artists, among others.
