Strengthening the student services of the University, a musical-variety show, concocted by Liceo de Cagayan University on May 24, 2009, featured the school’s musical, theater, and dance companies – the G-Clef Musical Society, Rodelsa Repertory, and Folkloric Dance Troupe.
Mall-goers gravitated to Limketkai Center’s rotunda after hearing Liceo U’s famous promotional jingle Take a Step Closer as sung by the G-Clef Musical Society who opened the show. Coming after them were the Rodelsa Repertory performers who interpreted an excerpt from the Broadway musical “Grease” – You’re the One I Want.
However, all ears blew away when the soaring and powerful voices of two G-Clef vocalists Deborah Cristi Cabague and Maria Kristal Jade Caballes echoed throughout the venue during their match of singing prowess. Singing world-famous “birit” hits, Cabague sang I Will Always Love You; Caballes, “Miracle” while both of them, in a duet, belted out Tell Him.
On the other hand, the Folkloric Dance Troupe performed a select repertoire of the country’s folk dances. Clad in tribal costumes and resounding peals of indigenous musical instruments, they performed the Maranao and Tausug dances Pangalay Hapatong, Kazilimut, Pindulas, and Sayaw sa Plato.
The musical-variety show, dubbed as “Liceo at the Mall,” is part of the annual information-drive campaign of the University, which ran from May 22 to 28. Aside from disseminating information about the school and its academic programs, the information campaign was also aimed at assisting prospective students in the enrolment process – evaluation of academic standing, selection of courses, and even encoding of class schedules.
“Liceo at the Mall” is an annual project of the University’s Promotions and Student Recruitment Office (PSRO) spearheaded by the Coordinator Ms. Ma. Theresa Jean Boo, with the cooperation of the Students and Personnel Services (SPS) Vice President Jose Vicente N. Noble and Student Affairs Coordinator Ms. Genefer Alba.
Meanwhile, the musical-variety show was directed by Ms. Deborah Cabague, under the supervision of Mr. Grover Dan Broces, who is director of the G-Clef Musical Society, and Mr. Ramil Sanchez, who is also from the said group. The director-moderators of the other groups Rodelsa Repertory and LdeCU Folkloric Dance Troupe are Mr. Harry R. Marte and Mr. Veberlino T. Yamut, respectively.
Hosting the said show were Mass Communication students Louise Balaba and Krisha Dawn Mainit.
