|Liceo U. passes IQuAME, awarded by CHED with Category A(t) status|

Liceo de Cagayan University has passed the Institutional Quality Assurance through Monitoring and Evaluation, or IQuAME, a rigorous process required by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for academic institutions seeking autonomous status.
"This is a milestone for us, to be the first and only university in Mindanao to be so honored," says Dr. Mariano M. Lerin, C.P.A., University President.
In fact, the University has been granted CATEGORY A(t) through CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 41, series 2008 for the period of six years, effective August 15, 2008 until August 16, 2014. The University is the only academe in Region 10 that has achieved the category.
Any academic institution that is placed under Category A(t) by the CHED is classified as a mature teaching institution. The institution is deemed to have placed teaching as its core business. Moreover, its faculty members are in the know with up-to-date developments in their disciplines through their personal study and scholarships. They are noted to have undertaken other forms of advanced scholarship, the results of which often merit publication in refereed journals, in fields such as professional practice and higher education pedagogy. The institution is also observed to also undertake such activities as extension and networking, and may house centers of excellence and development.
IQuAME is an assessment of current practices to describe the state of higher education in the country as basis for successful policy reforms. It upgrades minimum standards to a level comparable to international standards, thereby motivating all schools, regardless of capability, to upgrade themselves.
According to Dr. Genaro V. Japos, Liceo U.'s Director of Research and Publications, "Because IQuAME is an outcomes-based evaluation, an IQuAME status means that the school produces graduates who have the personality and training to stand equal to their counterparts in the world, who have the knowledge and skills comparable to others in the world, who have attitudes and values that make them distinct from their global counterparts, and who have the resilience and spirituality that make them outstanding models for the world at large."
Two impacts result from this new development: first, Liceo U. is able to put in place her Quality Assurance System; and, second, the University is now qualified for interventions and other forms of assistance from the CHED.
