Liceo’s very own Vox Coleen Janubas won first place during the Singing Idol competition held at SM City last October 18, 2011 under the aegis of the Cagayan de Oro Association of Private Elementary Schools-Association of Private Secondary Schools in Cagayan de Oro (CAPES-APSSCO).

The event was open to students from private elementary and secondary schools in the city.

Janubas, a senior student from Liceo de Cagayan Univeristy High School Department, confessed, “I practiced only three days before the contest. Although the preparation was quite short, I never thought of losing. I was full of hope.”

But then again, she has been singing all her life. An avid fan of Barbra Streisand, Janubas has been singing passionately and purposively since she was six years old. “My mom was my number one fan,” she mused.

“As for me, I’m an absolute Streisand fan,” she averred.

In fact, her competition piece was “Memory,” originally sung by Streisand. Emulating her idol’s ambitious vocal manipulations, Janubas stupendously sidelined the other 15 contestants in Category D (secondary school category).

And it certainly helped that she was voice-coached by Mrs. Marjorie Rivera, MAPEH Department faculty member.
