History
A post liberation institution, the Liceo de Cagayan University was founded in 1955 by the late Atty.Rodolfo Neri Pelaez of Cagayan de Oro City and his wife, the late Elsa Pelaez Pelaez of Cebu City with the primary vision of affording the youth in Northern Mindanao an opportunity to pursue relevant, quality education and facilitating their total formation anchored in moral values and Christian precepts.
Curricular Offerings
During her first 25 years , the Liceo de Cagayan University was exclusively a tertiary-level institution offering courses in law, commerce, engineering and liberal arts. It was not until 1981 when the Basic Education Department, consisting of the primary and secondary levels, completed the three curricular levels that the University is currently offering.
The Liceo University pioneered in the offering of such courses as Nursing (both baccalaureate and graduate degrees), Physical Therapy, Radiologic Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Tourism, and Computer Information Systems in Cagayan de Oro. Graduates of these courses have positioned themselves in filling the manpower requirements in these areas to support both developed and developing economics. In 1998, the University became the first in the country to offer a graduate program, the Diploma/Master of Local Governance Scholarship Program funded by the Canadian government and the Civil Service Commission. Moreover, innovative programs in Management, including Engineering, Environmental and Human Resource Management in both graduate and post-graduate levels have made it possible for the local executives and managers in business, academe, and government to update and upgrade themselves in their individual attempts to contribute towards the achievement of greater productivity, attainment of professional growth, and enjoyment of a heightened sense of self-fulfillment. With the advent of the age of computer technology, the University blazed the trail among local schools in offering Information Technology courses. In state-of-the-art laboratories, Liceans get connected to the global networks of information by surfing the information superhighway.
With seven curricular offerings already accredited and other departments due to undergo accreditation, Liceo University is the only school in the city with that much number of accredited programs.
